Shift Workers
Certain jobs involve more interruptions in sleep patterns than others.
Nowhere are the effects of sleep interruptions more evident than in shift
workers.
Nearly
20% of employees in industrialized countries are employed in shift work, which
requires them to drastically change their sleep habits weekly or even daily.
Changes in sleep habits disrupt normal sleep patterns and can cause serious
health consequences, such as stress and anxiety, depression or sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder found in approximately 5% of the
general population, but 11.6% of the shift work population. Recognized OSA
risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and alcohol use tend to be more prevalent
in the shift work population.
A major detriment of untreated sleep apnea is excessive daytime sleepiness
which is the feeling of being tired or of wanting to nap often throughout the
day. Employees with untreated sleep apnea put themselves and your company
at great risk!
Sleepy workers are dangerous, less productive, and a major source of
increased health-care costs and corporate liability.
At Sleep Apnea Solutions, we know that good sleep means good business and
with that, we proudly partner with our corporate customers to create a Sleep
Apnea Health & Safety Program that best suits your needs.
